We are incredibly proud to be part of 'Bordering on Britishness,' a project that illuminates the rich tapestry of Gibraltarian identity. Our team will collect oral histories, highlighting how language nuances can beautifully encapsulate and express a person's identity. In three and a half years, we expect to have around 400 of these oral narratives, each providing a unique window into the lives and experiences of our participants.

Introduction to the Project

Welcome to 'Voices of Gibraltar: Tracing Linguistic Expressions of Gibraltarian Identity.' In this three-and-a-half-year oral history project, we not only explore the fascinating world of Gibraltarian identity but also provide a platform to order admission essay that echo these unique identities. Delving deep into linguistic nuances that help define us, we are funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council. Collaborating with the Garrison Library of Gibraltar and the University of Essex, we aim to collect around 400 oral histories from diverse residents of Gibraltar and a select group in Spain. We conduct interviews in English, Spanish, and Moroccan Arabic, reflecting the multifaceted language dynamics prevalent in Gibraltar. Participants can choose their preferred language or even switch between languages, a characteristic trait of Gibraltarian speech. Our hypothesis? Identity could be expressed differently depending on the language used.

This partnership aims to enrich our research, broadening our understanding of linguistic identity, and expanding our academic reach and capabilities. Additionally, as part of our expanded academic offerings and services, we are excited to introduce a write my dissertation feature, intended to provide support to students in their scholarly pursuits.
